  • I don t even know how many times I ve read this book at this point and I don t even know if it s in print any, but I happened to randomly get a hardcover copy at a bargain bin at a grocery store of all places and it s my all time favorite book now I m willing to let my friends borrow it because I think it s a must read but it s very special to me so I have to know that it ll come back unharmed

  • I really enjoyed this book for about half of it The story of a woman healer in ancient Roman times with the mystery of her birth hanging over her head was interesting As the story unfolded tragedy would strike just as she was getting settled someone and building her healing practice With the tragedy on hand she would have to escape to somewhere elsewhere basically the same thing happened It seemed like the story was repeating itself over and over and I finally got tired of it although I did read [...]

  • One of my all time favorites Swedish language , usually I reread it every few years or ones a year Even if it s an old published book, the people are easy to relate to, it s nice to see a girl women in the leading role My hopes is that every one I know will give this book a chace

  • I wasn t really sure which genre to assign this novel to It s not straight historical fiction I guess historical fantasy is the closest genre There is a certain amount of romance, but nothing tasteless The story is that of the healer Selene From Palmyra she travels to Antioch, Persia, Babylon, Jerusalem, Alexandria, and finally Rome where she meets her destiny In the novel she is enslaved for awhile, then escapes She reunites with her sweetheart of years before, the surgeon Andreas they had been [...]

  • In this novel we follow Selene, a young woman seeking knowledge in the healing arts, seeking her true identity and seeking her lost love, Andreas Her search takes her on a lifelong epic adventure through the ancient world Syria, Babylon, Persia, Jerusalem, Alexandria, Rome I liked this story and the characters a lot, and unlike some of the other reviews I ve read, I thought there were enough plot twists and turns to keep one interested I would have liked closure in the end, but I ll overlook th [...]

  • The story and main plot were interesting enough to let me finish the book There were quite a few good ideas, but all in all, I m not too fond of Wood s style of writing Also, I think there are a lot of logical mistakes, chronological problems, the characters are too shallow, many times there could have been a great twist and a lot of great story telling, but then the author chose an easy peasy solution or just skipped a few years Also, I didn t find the ending very satisfying, aber I was glad, t [...]

  • I really enjoyed this book, which is a much easier read than we might imagine from reading the blurb.Selene is a girl in a desert town of Antioch who becomes a healer and uses herbal and sensible remedies to help people She is a highly sympathetic character Medicine in this part of the world was advanced than in Europe at this time Or course there are many afflictions that she cannot heal Selene s adventures as she has a romance with a surgeon and travels to Egypt, Babylon, and Rome are excitin [...]

  • Absolutely stellar Just amazing, beautifully and skillfully written with sweeping emotions and serpentine turns around every corner We follow Selene on the Journey of her life, as she weaves in and out of contact with the people in her life, the lessons she learns and the dangers she faces unsuspecting, but never with out finding a companion.

  • It didn t take me long to go through this book I loved following Selene s adventures There was a lot of surprises along the way that I never expected The end leaves us a bit hanging I would have enjoyed a settled, happy ever after ending to leave me with peace of mind.I m going to find some Barbara Wood books I loved the history and ancient medical healing.

  • This must be my 8th time or something reading this book It s one of my favorites I never get tired of reading of Selene s adventures, wanderings and her burning desire to heal It s a beautiful, inspiring love story filled with adventure This book is going back on my shelf for a little while until I forget the details of the plot and then I ll definitely be reading it again.

  • This was such a great book It took place about 300 A.D It is the story of Selene, who is raised by a healer woman and is a healerherself She met Andreas when she was sixtenn and searched all her life for him.

  • A very intricate unusual book set in ancient times The heroine is a woman who acts as a healer throughout the mideast and eventually Rome.

  • a fun readLove the medical history through out It was easy to read and entertaining, although not great literature by any means.
